26 September 2016 - First Open Market Consultation in Trieste

Open market consultations to meet the Industry!



On September 26th 2016 in the premises of the Istituto Regionale Rittmeyer per i ciechi in Trieste, it took place the first Open Consultation Event aimed to meet the industry and to analyse the technology state-of-the-art in the field of the technologies for partially-sighted persons.


The technical dialogue was opened by Mr. Marino Attini (Italian  Blind Union) ,  followed by a presentation of the project main results held by Mr. Stefano Borella (Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia, project partner). Then Ms. Sara Bedin (Innovation procurement Expert and project partner) presented the procurement for innovation procedures as a way to promote innovation through the public demand and Ms. Barbara Krejci Piry (European Blind Union and project partner) explained in detail the common innovation needs expressed by partially-sighted people in 2016 in a series of focus groups organized by the project across EU on the basis of the Technical Annexes. In the second part of the dayMs. Cinzia Fiorini (AREA Science Park, project partner) presented the main outcomes from the analysis on the technologies for low vision people and introduced the technologies developed by  Linari Engeneering S.r.l. (Pisa)  and Tiflo System S.r.l.(Piombino Dese - Padua). Supported from the medical perspective by dr. Francesca Tinelli (IRCCS Fondazione Stella Maris  - Pisa), Mr. Stefano Linari presented a e-Health solution  for visual rehabilitation of people affected by hemianopia, patened by the Linari Engeneering. Finally, Mr. Gabriele Ronca presented the latest innovative devices developed by TifloSystem in the field of visual impairment and the future perspectives of the R&D activities due to the explosion of the Chinese market of visual impairment devices.


Coordinated by AREA Science Park, the technical debate was aimed to find out whether technologies needed by partially-sighted persons are commercially available and to acquire information about the coverage of the desired functionalities, as well as to identify the innovation potential for the development of new technologies in the field of low vision devices.

On the basis of the main outcomes arisen from the consultation, AREA will define the two most promising technological areas  to be further investigated from a market and technological perspective in view of the definition of the most adequate procurement for innovation.
